View Full Version : Address check deleting important info in address line

We've noticed that when the address check is used on SR Web, it will sometimes delete important info from the address lines. Usually, there would be a "box" or "Unit" number after the street address, indicating where the item was to be forwarded to, at that address location. I've had 1 case in particular where the address was actually a post office, and the box or unit number was deleted from the address, causing issues once the item arrived at the location. Others are usually freight forwarder locations, which would need the customer number on the label to let them know routing information once they receive the package.

We don't want to disable address check/correction, since it does catch things like missing apartment numbers and such, but it would be nice if the program would at least let us know what it is correcting it to, and allow us to confirm, before actually making changes. This will give us a heads up if it's going to intentionally delete items from the address that may actually be important.

Can you tell us what carrier you are seeing this with, and maybe a couple example addresses?

We will certainly chase the issue.

Yes, as mentioned, we can dig right in, but need to know the carrier and one or more problem addresses.

We could be missing some of these as we ship (since the system will just delete a line in the address without warning). But for today as an example, we have one going to a UPS store in a shopping center, so there's a suite number (for the store itself), then a Box number. Lets say we just want to at least get it to the UPS store itself, if we have the address of 2700 S WOODLANDS VILLAGE BLVD STE 300, FLAGSTAFF AZ 86001 for example, the system is taking out the "STE 300" when we use FedEx as carrier. If we use USPS (Endicia), it leaves the "STE 300" in the address.

This line is needed in the address so the carrier at least knows what business in the shopping center gets the package. When we ship, or select "Address check", the STE 300 is deleted from the address line.

Another example would be any freight forwarder address, where the customer typically puts their "Box" number in the address line 2 field.

If the system would at least warn us (like our FedEx ship manager, or UPS worldship software does) of what changes it will make, we could probably catch them before it just deletes a line out, and we can determine if it's truly a needed part of the address itself.

We are loooking into this with two different cases:

55072 - Address Validation warning
55073 - Address Validation issues with FDX servers

We will update you when we have more information for either. Do note, we escalated the issue with the STE being stripped to FedEx. The same thing happens at FedEx.com.
