Crashes with the msg "unable to connect to server - check if you have MDAC 2.0 installed". What do I do?

Some questions:

a) Is this a new installation or update to existing?

b) Is this a stand alone or network installation?

c) Is this the first installation on the network?

Also, if you could post a screen shot (see the FAQ link above for steps) of the error that would be MOST helpful!

We were using v2 w/o any problems but we removed it before installing v4. No networking. I am attaching a screen shot.

Very odd.

A quick fix is probably to remove ShipRush (fully, see the kb http://www.zfirm.com/knowledge_bases/shiprush/sr4-004.txt ) reboot then reinstall and be sure to select stand alone install during the setup wizard.

If that does not do the trick, a call in to tech support may be the only path to happiness.

We believe this problem is specific to the PC. We have never seen this before (and this area of ShipRush is in use on thousands of systems on v3 and v4).

There are a couple of ways to approach it:

1) You could install SR4 on another PC as a 'reality check' Be sure to select all defaults, for a stand alone single user installation. Make sure you have admin rights on the PC.

2) You can call in to Z-Firm tech support. There is a charge for this, but a Z-Firm tech can work on the problem.

When installed in stand alone mode on a 'clean' win2000 or winxp system logged in as administrator, this error would not occur (or, we should say, has not occurred over some thousands of installations).

There are a large number of PC security, anti-virus, firewall, and other programs which can cause unpredictable issues in the field. Unfortunately, it looks like you are the first to have a specific PC environment that is causing an issue that is new to Z-Firm. Issues of this kind are sometimes impossible to resolve using forums.

Sorry we don't have a quick answer for you (we would certainly provide it if we had!).

It would be helpful to have answers to the questions we posted earlier:

a) Is this a new installation or update to existing?

b) Is this a stand alone or network installation?

c) Is this the first installation on the network?
