We are just starting to try to use ShipRush, and have plugged the Eltron Orion label (serial) printer that was connected to the FedEx PC into a normal Win98 PC.

Trying to boot up the PC with the printer plugged in caused the PC to not boot. Plugging in the printer while the PC is running actually brings the PC down.

Has anyone experienced this before? I assume that FedEx won't assist because we've unplugged this from their properiatary PC and plugged it into a normal PC with an accounting system and ShipRush? Is this what people are normally doing, or are you buying a separate label printer?

thanks for any help or thoughts,
Kevin Evans

Cannot say I've seen an Eltron printer cause the PC to shut down before. I've had plenty of people plug the printer into a PC and install the drivers as a normal printer on the PC.

Can you use an LPT cable (parallel) instead of the serial cable for that printer?

This sounds like a serious problem in hardware (either the PC or the printer).

A newer PC with WinXP might make a big difference.
