Thread: FedEx Rate Shopping Acts Like UPS...

  1. #1
We use the API to send info to ShipRush...

FedEx shows commercial rates until you print the label. If the address is residential, you will get charged the higher rate and not know unless you looked at what was actually charged.

The system is not considering the address to be residential when you first view the rate shopping comparison list. It isn't until you actually select FedEx as the account that it defaults to residential.
That is why the price is lower when you first look at it in comparison list.

Hope that makes sense. Once FedEx shows it as a residential, you can't repeat the process unless you actually reload the order and go directly to the magnifying glass and view all the prices. Since USPS doesn't care about RES. Vs COM. Is there a way to have all shipments default to RES in order to get a consistent price check across all carriers?

Are you using USPS as the default carrier when you do the rate shopping? If you have FedEx as the default, does the issue no longer happen (looking for the delta here)?

And do you have the option to do an address check and set the residential flag enabled on your FedEx Account in settings in ShipRush?

You wouldn't want to have the default residential, as that will treat everything as residential.

I forgot to mention that this is a shipment to Canada from the US.

Yes SR USPS is the default. When we flip to FedEx it will then give us the correct rate because it now knows it is residential. Residential flag is set to default. We were using the auto address check but your system will auto overwrite the address so if a customer needs to have both lines on the address...(PO BOX and STEET), your system will kill the street from LINE 2. This of course is an issue if we end up mailing by USPS. If having the default set to residental, this would have the opposite on our case. We would show higher rates on the shopping popup and then print a lower rate when processed.

And you're doing this via our REST API and not in ShipRush Web itself, correct?

It doesn't matter...we can reproduce the issue either way.

We've reviewed the report with our QA team. They are unable to replicate the issue described here. If address validation is enabled on the FedEx account and rate shopping is done as described here (with postal as default), the rates returned for FedEx shipments are for Residential Delivery.

We also tested with residential enabled as default, and that makes all rate shopping requests show Residential Rates for FedEx.

Are there more details that we may have missed?

    Thank you,
