Thread: SR Web + Hazardous Materials Shipping

  1. #1
    Hey guys,

Is there an instruction sheet on how to ship Hazardous Materials using ShipRush Web? We are currently using UPS Worldship but our FedEx rates are better and it would allow us to keep all of the package data in one place. I see the fields for hazardous materials are there but not sure how to properly use them. We currently only ship fully regulated UN3480 Lithium-Ion Batteries and UN3481 Lithium-Ion Batteries Packed In/With Equipment.

Edit: Should also comment, we are already approved to ship Hazmat w/ FedEx and have all of the forms/pouches.

    Nate

Are you shipping lithium batteries that fall under the Lithium Exception with FedEx, or do you need to declare as specified hazardous materials?

From the helpfile, regarding lithium and FedEx:
    https://my.shiprush.com/docs/zfirm/E...hlight=lithium

    Thank you,

They are fully regulated, class 9, over 300Wh Lithium-Ion Batteries so they must be declared as hazardous materials.

OK....refer to the helpfile on how to turn on the option for Hazmat
    https://my.shiprush.com/docs/zfirm/E...ight=hazardous

Once you have the option on the screen, fill in the fields as required by FedEx

    Thank you,

FedEx is very touchy about the DOT\Tech Name

In looking online, the proper name at FedEx for UN3481 is either:

    Lithium Ion packed with equipment
    Lithium Ion contained in equipment

Try with removing the word batteries from the DOT\Tech Name, and see if that gives better results

    Thank you,

Is there documentation you pulled this from? I would also need the name for UN3480 and the only document I saw "Lithium Ion packed with equipment" and "Lithium Ion contained in equipment" on was a FedEx Express doc from October 2017.

I tried changing the DOT\Tech Name to what you recommended and neither worked -- received the same error "Message from the FedEx Server: Package 1 - Invalid dangerous goods commodity data for commodity 1 in container 1 [ship:7802]"

Also seems like some data is missing...for example I cannot put in 1 Fiberboard Box as a packaging type as there is not a field for this?

I have not heard of declaring the packaging type for hazmat, and have not seen that be the reason for a shipment failure.

Did some more digging for FedEx hazmat documentation to use:
    https://www.fedex.com/content/dam/fe...dEx-Ground.pdf

From there I found this page:
    https://www.fedex.com/en-us/service-...resources.html

    To this document:
    https://www.fedex.com/content/dam/fe...ppingTable.pdf

For US shipping (sorry, the document I found before was for the UK), looks to be this:
Lithium ion batteries contained in equipment
    or
Lithium ion batteries packed with equipment

Capitalization and punctuation must look like the above (no hyphen or capitals after the first word)

Try that, and let's see where it gets us

    Thank you,
