Any plans on incorporating FedEx Smartpost as an service option? FedEx will be
rolling this service out to all accounts on Oct. 5th. Thanks.
It is being looked at. We do not expect support until sometime in 2010.

Thanks for the update.
I wanted to pass along another bit of information that could give an idea of how many current shiprush users may choose to use SmartPost.
Previously, a minimum number of 500 packages daily was required, but under the new FedEx smart post arrangement, a shipper can send as few as a SINGLE package daily and still use Smart Post (the ground driver will pick up Smart Post Shipments).
For our organization, this means the elimination of the Residential Delivery Surcharge ($2.05), and the Out of Area Surcharge (sometimes over $3) which is real savings.
If you need any Beta Testing, just let us know!
Smartpost is coming... but is a few months away still.

I would check again on the benefits and drawbacks of SmartPost.
yes, you will save money
However, there is no insurance on the package. If they show delivered to the Post Office and the customer claims they did not receive it you have NO recourse. tracking number stops at the Post office (those that ship Ebay, Paypal - I doubt they will consider that as POD in the event of a claim)
Some Post Offices feel you are taking away their revenue and SmartPost packages are last priority for sorting and putting on delivery trucks. So expect delays in delivery and customer complaints
IMO SmartPost may be good for large volume shippers as the savings will make up for the possible losses. Small volume shipping like myself it is not worth the risk.
Not sure if Insurance is available since it's being delivered by two separate carriers.
At first I thought SmartPost was ideal, but now having second thoughts.
General Rule less than 1 lb Post Office, over 1 lb FedEx
