Thread: DataMatrix barcode not printing

  1. #1
    Hi,

Some reason my thermal printer Eltron LP 2443 doesn't print this 2d label. It only prints the number under it and leave the barcode empty.

    1) It is possible to print a different kind of barcode using shiprush? Maybe the one similar to the one endicia's application uses?

    2) Will USPS accept the package if I leave this barcode empty? I print delivery confirmation on all my package and they have another barcode under it.

    Thanks.

A 2443 printer is not supported for use with ShipRush Endicia as they are unable to print the 2D Datamatrix barcode. The label without the barcode is not an acceptable label at the Post Office.

We suggest a ZP450, available from ups.com or a ZP500, available from FedEx. You may be able to also use a Zebra 2844, but only if it accepts or supports the firmware upgrade:

Data Matrix is a very efficient, two-dimensional (2D) barcode symbology that uses a small area of square modules with a unique perimeter pattern, which helps the barcode scanner determine cell locations and decode the symbol. Characters, numbers, text and actual bytes of data may be encoded, including Unicode characters and photos.

I was just wondering. This is option fixed yet? Why can't shiprush use the same barcode label that endicial dazzle or stamp.com uses? I want to move back to shiprush but don't want to purchase a printer just for that.

I apologize, but this is a Postal Service requirement, not a ShipRush decision.

IOW: Here at ShipRush we would change it in a heartbeat.

    But we can't.

The Postal Service, some years ago, moved to Datamatrix as "the" preferred bar code. Many postage meters and other systems use it.

Dazzle and stamps.com print the older "pdf 417" bar code. So far, they have been permitted to continue using the pdf 417 bar code. One benefit of this is that they are compatible with older Eltron printers, like the 2542 and other models.

If you have an Eltron or Zebra 2844, it can usually be updated to print datamatrix. See this web page: http://www.ups.zebra.com/ctp/upgrade.aspx

If you do not have a thermal printer, used Zebra 2844 printers can be purchased on eBay for $65-85 (and up): http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trk...All-Categories

(Note that these printers may need the firmware update described at http://www.ups.zebra.com/ctp/upgrade.aspx )

You can also purchase a brand new ZP450 for under $200 which works great.

Let us know how we can help!
